Anti-Corporate Animus
or
Liberal Corporate Ignorance
Day after day, week after week, indeed for decades on end, people of clear critical thinking have had to put up with the ignorant, hateful Anti-Corporate caterwauling that pours out of the Democratic Party, it's individual Democrats and Liberals and Libertines and Anarchists.
As we watch C-Span and CNN, or listen to NPR; as we read The Nation and The Progressive; as we sit in on guest lectures by such nincompoops as Ralph Nader (Nadir?), Emmanuel Wallerstein, Barbara Erenreich, Noam Chomsky, Ruth Coniff, William Galston, Jeff Cohen, Norm Solomon, or Michael Moore, we get the impression that Corporations (both American and multi-national) are the most evil social institutions ever devised, and that it would be a much different world (that is to say, a much better world) without them.
Even though the accusations and complaints are always the same (Corporations pollute the environment, deliberately ruin the lives of "the little people," never pay their "fair share" of taxes, they care nothing for the well-being of their employees; Corporations are "greedy" and "immoral," "amoral," concerning themselves with "profit" instead of "compassion," they've abandoned America in search of more fruitful international evils), they're repeated over and over again, as if new, to each up and coming class of high school, college, and even pre-school nursery students, by professional social crusaders, malcontents, and their collaborators with the endless, industrious, insidious, generations-spanning hope that the naive socialist fire in the hearts of our young and idealistic children will be fanned up into a blaze that will consume the whole corrupted materialistic world.
And in pursuit of their noble struggle, these Democratic sociologists and world-savers have spun a tale of Corporate perfidy to rival the works of the Brothers Grimm.
But, what's the reality behind the Liberals' charges? What facts underlie their endless hostile Anti-Corporate tirades? Are they telling us the truth?
Corporations have gone overseas to avoid paying their "fair share" of taxes.
It is the goal of every corporation to create jobs, profits, and growth, all while paying no taxes whatsoever.
To this end, the corporation redistributes all its income to its stockholders, employees, Research and Development, Management, and its Visionaries.
At every one of these levels, taxes are due on personal income and profit. The investors, stockholders, shareholders, the employees, managers, janitors etc., pay all the taxes. Every cent of corporate income must be redistributed so that the corporation itself makes no profit whatever, thereby owing no taxes to the Government. The corporation is in the business of supporting its shareholders and its employees, and it's they who pay the taxes. The corporation has no business whatsoever supporting the government with the very money due to all these others. In essence, the corporation does not even exist as a taxable entity because it keeps no actual money for itself.
But, of course, the Democrats (sociologists and socialists) see corporate income (indeed, all income) as public property, owned by their vision of an activist government, to be spent in the service of social engineering.
But even that selfish view isn't enough for them. Where rational, judicious thinkers see corporations as just so many free citizens banding together to make money as a company, the Democrats (ever-filled with jealous hatred) see a horrible villainy afoot: the unacceptable social criminal treachery of a club of elites who profit by the blood, sweat, and toil of the common folk.
And so, injury has to be heaped on top of insult. In the 50 year span between FDR and Slick Willie Clinton, Democrats have used the power of the government not only to create an illegal corporate taxation system of double, triple, and even quadruple dipping, but also to create and prosecute a huge, obscene class war against the American business community, a crusade which rivals (no, ..... surpasses) the Islamic notion of Jihad: a literal holy war against the evil Capitalist Infidels.
With such slurs as "white collar crime," "Corporate Welfare," "fat cats," "corporate overlords," "Wall Street criminals," "Corporate Greed" repeated thousands of times a week in a thousand different venues, 50 years of Democratic verbal hostility and seditious intellectual propaganda have created an image of corporate America that resembles the grotesque, inhuman hoards of Sauron (J.R.R. Tolkien's magical emperor of evil).
The ultimate result of all this hate, all this malevolence, is that corporations (yes, even that horrible Jabberwock Enron) pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes every year while the Leftists, Communists, Socialists, and political sociologists among us continue on their furious, ignorant way, still insisting that corporations don't pay taxes. What a bunch of brain dead fools!
And then ..... when the corporate community, finally sickened and offended enough by more than half a century's bile and venom heaped on them by the Left, moves its operations and jobs offshore to other lands (where they're happily welcomed with open arms, cheaper labor, and lower taxes), the Democrats go virtually insane with rage, screaming, yelling, swinging their clenched fists in the air, wagging their fingers and pounding their shoes, demanding that these evil economic elitists come back to America for even more verbal abuse, more stupid accusations, and more taxation than ever!
Their socialist ignorance is laughable. How could anybody be so far off the mark? It's like mercilessly beating a dog, then when it runs off, actually insisting that it slink back for more whipping and kicking! How dare the corporations run off and avoid the sadism of their most hostile critics?
Corporations have no social conscience.
Corporations are the single best money redistribution scheme in history. We give our money to a company, then that company hires people, people who would otherwise be poor, people like our brothers and sisters, fellow Americans often down on their luck.
At a higher level of understanding, through corporations the upper class invests in the lower class. That's genuine redistribution.
But the Leftists maintain that corporations give absolutely nothing to the poor. And even if they do give something, it's not enough. The usual charge is: "It's a socially and morally criminal act to 'not give something back to the community they exploit,' so Corporations that give nothing 'back' to the lazy, unambitious, drug and alcohol addicted America hating victims of society in our ghettos are irresponsible criminal organizations."
In fact, corporations that set up business in low quality areas provide jobs (and benefit packages) to its local employees; they provide products, services, educational opportunities for young people, decent working conditions, and (most importantly) neighborhood home improvement benevolence programs. But these contributions are never recognized by the professional critics. Instead, the 'poor' are owed a level of benevolence so profound that no corporate efforts are sufficient to offset the cumulative historical guilt for all the social crimes of the past.
Greed.
The single factor, that one notion common to all the diverse anti-corporate crusaders is this: Profit is bad, it leads to greed, and GREED is the paramount social crime. While Capitalism as a social order is evil, because when men profit by the labor of others the workers are exploited and demeaned even as the profiteers are exalted, Greed is (in and of itself) utterly and profoundly vile.
In the mind of America's Left, one's life should be spent in the dour, humorless, angry pursuit of Social Justice, and not spent on the irresponsible pursuit of self indulgent materialism or frivolous economic success, not while that very materialistic success actually causes other people to live in poverty and go hungry, forces children into slavery, rapes the environment, abuses and consumes animals, and sets up a global system of social inequality which is literally destroying all life on Earth!
Greed is the single greatest sin in the Left's pantheon of social sins. Until everyone in the world is made equal, until the planet is governed by a benign multicultural parliament, until the world's resources (energy, food, housing, money, integrity) are evenly distributed among "all people," economic Self Interest will remain the root cause of all social evil. From Greed itself flow Capitalism, Entrepreneurialism, Businesses, Stockholders, Impersonal Corporations, and worst of all, Inequity. In a world where all the resources (natural and man-made) should be owned by all people in common and distributed to each according to their needs, Greed allows one person to have more than another. Greed undermines the single uniform principle present in every Liberal argument: Sameness.
All people must have the same opportunities, the same quality of housing, clothing, food, education, health care, dignity, etc. Indeed, the benign sociologist activist government must provide equal results in life for everyone by taking from each citizen according to his means and giving to each citizen according to his needs. In this way, all people can be made equal. That is, made same.
Without sameness, Inequity reigns, the children of the Wealthy will have better opportunities than the children of the Poor, and the immoral cycle of wretchedness will continue (the Rich will get richer while the poor get poorer) forever.
Corporations are nothing more than Institutionalized Greed, nearly impossible to expunge from society. And worse, Greed spreads through the very lower classes that it exploits. Poor People are led into foolish ambition, tricked into chasing Wealth instead of Justice, duped into abandoning their own Diversity for the socially unjust Prosperity that arises from personal investing in Corporate America.
As the achiever class grows, its core evils entrench themselves more firmly than ever in the social order, and the frustrated rancor of Left Wing Democrats becomes virtually incalculable. They flail their arms all about, stamp their feet, bug out their eyes, build huge street puppets, take off their clothes, pull their hair and tear their flesh, wrap themselves in barbed wire and spit up blood, all in rage against the inevitable triumph of their most hated foe: the evil Greedy Corporate Military Industrial Complex, which (again) is (always) destroying all life on Earth.
So, Greed is really Politically Incorrect.
And so it goes, on and on .......
In the words of Molly Yard (infamous co-founder of NOW), "We will never give up, Never Give Up, NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER GIVE UP ! ! ! !
And it's true, the Left will never give up.
It's a sad fact of American political life that the unenlightened Left will always be with us.
The odious Progressive viewpoint invades every Democrat's psyche. All of today's rank and file Democrats carry the generational stigma and burden of the eternal Progressive Agenda. Our current Democratic leaders in Congress hide their support for the extremists under a veneer of market friendly "social improvements," which provide an endlessly open political door for the wicked redistributionist agenda hidden in their final policies and votes.
Okay, I've heard enough ......
It's clear that America's Left are a bunch of fools, wallowing in a common ignorance and common hate like so many silly pigs in their own unsanitary, intellectual "mud."
Their facts are fictions, their core beliefs are malignant, and they simply will not see the truth, even when it's standing right in front of them,
But why, ..... why does it happen ..... ?
Corporations exist and function by way of several principles that Democrats simply do not, will not, and cannot understand:
1. Private Property. Leftists are dismally unaware of the various theories by which a single symbolic individual can walk (buck naked) into the Forest Primeval, lay claim to (and work) land, then own, sell, or barter the fruit of that land for his own benefit, even defending his homestead and territory with deadly force.
Private Property is the root source of personal industry, the entrepreneurial spirit, the exploitation of others, and worst of all, ..... privately held Money.
2. For the Democrats and Liberals, money is obviously a natural resource like air, or water, owned in common by all people and due to each person in equal portions. It's possible to accumulate too much money, and the wealth of some people actually causes the poverty of others. All wealth (in the face of poverty) is illegitimate. Money is euphemized into neutral concepts like "resources," and "contributions," or "funding," then spread around for all and sundry social engineering as if it merely sprang from the earth itself, rather than created by the hard work of taxpayers. Poor people are poor because rich people have made too many trips to the money tree, pushed too many poor people out of the line, and then fenced off the tree for themselves, while their victims starve in the cold, dark, bleak forest of need and want.
And that's just not right. Because, in truth, the Money belongs to everyone, it should be used to fix society's ills, not create them.
3. Corporations subvert the Liberal concept of the "Group Identity," or that is ..... the "Multicultural Team."
People should band together in order to fight their common oppressive victimhood, not exploit others for mere profit. Diverse peoples should band together (in the politically corrected male/female and ethnic minority ratios) to be "inclusive," not to preserve the white male "good old boys network." The perfect politically corrected corporate Team must have the right amount women, asians, blacks, gays, self-castrated white Liberal ninny-men, etc, to be an example of what a socially responsible, economic activist company ought to be like: A tender, understanding, sensitive, a socially and environmentally and victimologically responsible body, vicious and combative in the face of racism and sexism and environmental rape wherever and whenever necessary, but with eyes always on the Liberal principles inherent in the umbrella term "Global Justice for All." In other words, just like the Maoist Cooperatives operating NPR (often called PCR, Politically Corrected Radio), PBS, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Public Radio International.
In reality, despite all the Democratic assertions to the contrary, the history of corporations is the history of prosperity for everyone who participates in them. From the stockholders to the managers to the employees and the Government, all have experienced an obviously demonstrable, verifiable economic evolution up from utter wretchedness to new levels of personal and social comfort. And where corporations are not present, there are the usual historical social horrors.
Okay, I get it now .....
People on the Left have no sense of reality at all. They drive or fly to meetings where they protest oil companies and pollution. They protest Corporations, then go home to jobs where their retirement plans are heavily invested in those very Corporations. They smoke cigarettes, then hate the cigarette companies. When they kill each other over drugs, they condemn gun manufacturers, and while they espouse a "woman's right to choose abortion," they breed their own welfare brats like rodents. Always complaining about slave-labor sweatshops, they still buy sports shoes sewn by Thai and Indonesian children who go home to parents who sell them to Gay pedophile tour groups. Ever worried about the price of (and economic dependence on) foreign oil and gas, they refuse to allow any new corporate energy exploration and drilling. Concerned for the rights of children, they condemn the rampant gay pedophilia of the Catholic Church then champion the causes of both the Gay Agenda and NAMBLA. They condemn the spread of AIDS, but extol the virtues of sexual experimentation and keep the gay bath houses open.
They riot for Peace, and they Hate those who will not Love.
Held together by blind, butt-stupid, intellectually worthless dogma, the Leftists have dug themselves into a pit of absurdity, always happy to dig deeper in the pursuit of Global Justice. Mired in the quicksand of ignorance and self contradictory, self defeating behavior, they thrash about, frothing at the mouth, sinking all the faster into irrelevance and political impotence.
What should we do about all this?
Absolutely nothing. They are their own worst enemies.
If, on the other hand, we just can't leave them alone, we should then encourage them to even greater depths of clueless hypocrisy, then laugh at them as they charge out to tilt at even more windmills.
The usual Democratic issue structure has collapsed under the weight of its own self-contradictory words and actions. All we have to do is stand back and watch as the laughable heap rots away into nothing.
Well, that was easy enough.
